Wide, wide leg, baggy: three words, three cuts 📏

The three terms are everywhere and nobody pins them down. Wide is the catch-all: the volume runs from hip to ankle and the leg falls straight. Wide leg: the volume starts at the knee and opens downwards, the hip stays close to the body. Baggy: volume everywhere, crotch included, low rise, the leg blouses at the hip already. Three silhouettes, not three degrees of the same thing.

This page is wide and wide leg. No low-rise baggy: a rise that drops shortens the leg to the eye. If you want trousers that drag along the floor, this is the wrong collection. On the menswear side, our men's wide leg dungarees carry the same volumes.

Measure the hem flat, do not guess it ✂️

The one number that never lies is hem width measured flat: dungarees on the table, fabric smoothed out, the bottom of one leg measured seam to seam. Three markers:

• Around 20 cm: a straight cut. The foot goes through, nothing flaps.
• 24 to 30 cm: now we are wide. The fabric follows the movement a beat later.
• From 32 cm up: proper wide leg. The hem sweeps and the silhouette reads from across the room.

Double it for the circumference. That is the figure to compare, not the photographs. Measure a pair of trousers you already like and you will know your bracket.

Two cuts, two fabrics 👖

The Denim Large Jenny® relies on a supple denim that ages well with every wash, cut straight and generous from hip to ankle. The Corduroy Ivory® brings the same roominess in a softer, warmer fabric, in an ecru tone that is easy to pair. Both are cut from fabrics of 280 to 320 GSM.

Which fabric falls well in which cut 🧶

The pattern makes the width. The weight decides whether that width holds. Too light a cloth in a 34 cm leg does not build a column, it builds a curtain that clings to your calves.

• Raw denim, 300 to 320 GSM: carries a proper wide leg. It marks at the knee, which is the fabric working.
• Washed, supple denim, 280 GSM: better suited to a moderate width, 24 to 28 cm. Beyond that it drapes instead of falling.
• Corduroy: the wales act as vertical rails, the cloth has body. Corduroy at 30 cm reads like denim at 34.

These cuts stop neither wind nor water. This is cotton, and cotton drinks. If you start from the fabric, look at our denim dungarees and our corduroy dungarees.

The sack effect and its three causes 🎈

A wide cut gone wrong has a name: the sack effect. The size ordered is almost never to blame. Three causes, in order of frequency.

• The width comes from everywhere. A wide leg on a waist that is already loose has nothing left to anchor it. Volume has to start somewhere definite, hip or knee. Which is why you do not size up here.
• The straps are too long. The bib slides down, the rise follows, the whole thing drops three centimetres. The marker: two fingers between strap and shoulder, standing, without pulling. Not four.
• The cloth is too soft for the volume. 280 GSM in a 34 cm hem will not hold the column. Weight is chosen with the cut, not afterwards.

The test is done side-on in front of a mirror: if the knee crease lands on the knee, you are fine. Ten centimetres lower, it is the straps.

Finding the right amount of room 📐

A wide cut does not mean going two sizes up: our models are already drawn loose, so stay with your usual size. The classic mistake: taking your top size instead of your trouser size. A wide cut changes nothing there, the waist measurement decides. The adjustable straps then recover 5 to 8 cm of body length.

On length, aim for a hem that just brushes the shoe: three centimetres too much on a 32 cm leg and the edge sands itself away on the pavement in one winter. We cut from XS to 8XL, and the size guide has a calculator: height and weight in, the size to order out.

Delivery, exchange and care 🚚

Both models on this page ship from our warehouse in Miramas, in the south of France. If the size is wrong, the exchange is free within 14 days.

Care is where a wide cut is won or lost. Wash at 30 °C inside out, no tumble dryer. Shrinkage stays under 2 %, but on a 32 cm hem 2 % is already 6 mm gone. Corduroy also crushes its wales in the heat: dry flat or on a hanger.
