On ski dungarees the bib is not there for looks: it closes the torso where your jacket rides up, which is the moment you raise your arms for the chairlift bar. Too low and snow gets in; too high and it presses under the bust. The marker is the hollow of the breastbone. The straps buy back the rest, 5 to 8 cm: standing, jacket on, two fingers should slide between strap and shoulder. The classic mistake is setting them in your socks in the hotel room. Ski boots add 4 centimetres. The same cut logic runs through all our ski dungarees.
Cold on the mountain is rarely about thickness. It is about moisture. First layer: synthetic or merino, never cotton, which drinks the sweat of the climb and hands it back freezing on the chairlift. Second layer: fleece or thin down. Third layer: the dungarees. The most common error is stuffing two fleeces under a pair chosen exactly to size: with no air between the layers there is no insulation, and the knee stops bending.
On waterproofing, let us be plain. A water repellent fabric turns away dry snow, not a whole day sitting in wet snow. What decides is the seams, felled or taped across seat and crotch, and the narrow leg worn over the boot, never tucked inside. Cotton dungarees at 280 to 320 GSM are tough but they drink: not ski kit.
You find out around eleven, in your dungarees, wearing gloves, a helmet and a jacket. On a classic pair, taking everything off means removing the jacket, unclipping both straps and letting the front panel trail on the floor. You do that once. What to look for before buying: a zip fly that is long enough, side press studs, or buckles that release one handed, glove and all. Thin plastic clips harden at minus ten and give up.
The classic mistake is starting from your top size. Dungarees are ordered on your trouser size, waist and hip; the straps take care of the torso. Caught between two sizes, take the larger one: on skis there is always one more layer underneath than at the fitting. We cut from XS to 8XL, and our size guide returns the size to order from your height and weight. Past XL, our plus size dungarees are cut for it rather than scaled up.

Two habits specific to skiing: close the zips before washing, and dry flat, never on a radiator. Put away damp in April, they come back out smelling in November.
